Dating A Cougar A Novel Never Too Late Book 1 eBook Donna McDonald

Dating a Cougar isn't exactly my kind of book, I'm not sure exactly what made me add this one in my TBR. I guess it's because of the title or the sypnosis was convincingly good, either way, I'm still glad that I did *wink.

I haven't read anything like this one before (though the idea isn't foreign to me), but I've read one where the guy is almost twice the age of his wife, so I had this hopeful feeling that this one's going to be exciting. I decided to try reading the prologue first to see if I would like the tone and the writing style of the author then eventually found myself at the last page of the story. For Dating a Cougar, I am giving it a 3.5 star rating. I really do enjoy the pair up of Alex and Casey; they're both hardheaded that's why they argue most of the time, which mind you quite entertaining to read. I also find their setup amusing. You see, Casey is currently living with Seth which is the ex of Alex's daughter, Jenna. What a coincidence eh?

During the first few chapters of this story, I find Casey so charming (so charming that he sounded a little bit like a stalker to me haha), but when I reached the part where he lectured Alex about being to flirty (in a rude way), I changed my mind. Casey wasn't charming at all but an egotistical jerk. He's a retired Marine so I kinda understand the outburst or the manly prowess he posses, but dude! Can you practice a little decency on speaking your mind and on saying it on a right place and time? But overall, he's a good man despite being a jerk sometimes. I guess all man has their jerky side eh? Besides, I find it amusing how open he is that he's been professing his love for Alexa to a countless of people already, haha. Also, I love that even if Alexa's 12 years older than him, that didn't stop to pursue the woman who captured his attention after 2 years of losing his first love.

Alex on the other hand is a hot 50 year old momma. She's a former model plus she's in a lingerie business so I guess her appeal and youthful beauty will never fade that fast. I love how stubborn, tough and independent she is. When I think of a successful business woman, all I could picture out now is her. Another thing that made me adore her character more was when I found out about her ex husband. I was really surprised and never even suspected about it. After all that she endured, I have to say that she totally deserves everything that she has now, including Casey even if he can be a prick sometimes. And lastly, her relationship with her daughter is so charming to read. With Casey in, her platonic family is finally complete. *Wink.

I don't have any complaints about the writing style, it was surprisingly good and I love the tone of the story. Even if we're in the part of a conflict, the story exudes a very warm, friendly and good tone that's why throughout the story, I didn't feel angry or frustrated, but I'm almost there on the last chapter, good thing the amnesia thing wasn't stretched out or I'll be throwing some tables haha. Aside from a bitchy third party, I also hate stories with amnesia, it just pisses me off.

Also, the shifting of POVs can be a bit confusing but it was still a very good read considering that almost all of the characters has their own share of POV. Even if it were just a little at least we were able to know what they were thinking of especially the main leads. Dating a Cougar only has a handful of characters which the author brilliantly utilizes them all. All of them has their own important roles to both Casey and Alex's life thus giving them a chance to shine in their own way.

Dating a Cougar is the first book of the Never Too Late series and base from the series name, I'm pretty sure the other books will include the stories of Alex's close friends, Regina and Lauren who's also in their 40s. I'm used to stories where the main character are young so once in a while, reading a story like this one is kind of refreshing which makes me wish I could be as badass as Alexa when I reached my 50s (in God's time) *wink.

Overall, Dating a Cougar is a very entertaining read with a hint of sexiness.

Dating A Cougar A Novel Never Too Late Book 1 eBook Donna McDonald Reviews

I found this to be a fun and witty romance featuring an older woman and a younger man. Although it has some more serious moments, it never took itself too seriously. The two main characters have good chemistry. McDonald introduces a lot of secondary characters (probably to set up for a series), but they are all distinguished well and I never struggled to tell them apart. Still, it sometimes felt like a lot – especially when they were all gathered together (the author writes one-on-one scenes much better than the sometimes forced “hilarity” of group scenes). I would recommend this for fans of lighter contemporary romance, not just those enjoying older woman/younger man stories.

Note some of the other reviewers were really bothered by Casey’s dominant attitude and, although it didn’t bother me while I was reading, when I was reading the reviews afterwards, I could see their point. If you are concerned about stuff like this, it may be worth checking out some of the lower star reviews and seeing their thoughts on it. I never thought the author crossed the line with Casey’s behavior, but he is certainly a more controlling/jealous male main than some.
As a mature woman who is married to a husband 20 yrs. younger, I enjoyed this book so much!! I got many laughs too. Life after 50, or 70, does go on...and how!! We can choose to get old at any age, and some folks are "old" at 40!! However, I am like Alexa in this book. I have chosen to stay young and live. Losing people in my life who disagree with me is a blessing, in my assessment of it. Take out the trash and move on. This book was so much fun to read. I recommend it to everyone.
Alexa is brash, bold, beautiful, and successful beyond measure. She’s also cynical, jaded, and not looking for love. This former fashion model, turned business mogul, has it all. That is except for the man who will love her unconditionally, see the woman beyond the success, and who is not intimidated by her controlling ways and sharp tongue.

Casey is a retired Marine who is on the mend from several life altering incidents. On the tail end of grief and the beginnings of redefining and reestablishing his life, he meets Alexa. Although no words can describe what it is about this woman, the attraction and connection between them is undeniable. She’s not his usual type and far from an easy prey. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he had to have her. If only he could convince this seasoned woman to look beyond their twelve year age difference and see into his heart.

Alexa is determined not to succumb to his charm, instead choosing to stay behind her self-proclaimed wall of exile from men. But try as she might, there is just something about this man who draws her like moths to a flame. Without trying, he manages to see right through to the heart of her and recognizes her need for something real, solid and stable in her life. Will the passion between them draw them closer or will their passionate, controlling ways keep them apart?

Donna McDonald has written a delightfully witty, light-hearted romance between a younger man and older woman, each who are determined to have their own way. The chemistry between the main characters is electric, while the dynamics of the secondary characters add just the right about of spice and whimsy to the story. Adding to the appeal of the story is the addition of imperfect characters with ‘real’ flaws and relatable issues, as well as characters who are mature in age and experiences. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from this author and from this series. Side note I love the cover…ties right in with the whimsical feel of the story.
